Nutrition Coaching for Athletes & Active Adults
What really got me interested in nutrition was my personal experiences as an athlete. Back in high school my senior year of athletics was hampered due to injuries ranging from an abdominal tear to a strained tricep. Looking back, it was apparent that I wasn’t fueling myself nearly enough to keep up with my training. This was my first real experience of how impactful nutrition can be on overall health, performance and recovery. Now I’m helping my clients to fuel properly to achieve their goals and avoid the same setbacks that I experienced.
My career in sports nutrition began while I was in college and volunteered with The Ohio State University sports nutrition department for about six years all through undergrad and grad school. Immediately after grad school I worked as a research dietitian at The Ohio State University studying the impact of various diet strategies on performance and helping publish several papers. During this time, I received the opportunity to join the Columbus Crew SC and eventually become their first ever full-time dietitian which was capped off with winning the 2020 MLS Cup Championship. Currently in addition to working with you and consulting through Rise Nutrition, I am also the consulting dietitian for the United States Men’s National Soccer Team and preparing for the World Cup.
I live in Columbus, Ohio with my wife Nicole Short who is the best chiropractor in the Columbus area (proud husband brag, but check her webpage here if in need). We enjoy traveling and exploring new places but since COVID we’ve now become quite fond of board games, working on our cooking skills testing out recipes and watching sports on tv. Recently we’ve become homeowners and since the moment we got the keys my wife has been asking when we’re getting a dog. So naturally, it’s only a matter of time until I come home one day to find a bernedoodle, her dream dog, running around! But truly both of our passions stem from helping others and I look forward to the chance to help and work with you.
